I’d rock a Morris/Austin Marina TC Coupe on Minilites. No shame.
A regular Marina though? Na.

I think the Allegro is an underappreciated car. As I said before, if these BL cars had a Lancia, Fiat, Citroen badge, they would be much less of a joke.

The Allegro was a good concept, poorly executed. If it had been built right, it would be considered a classic. But it wasn’t. By any means.

The Allegro could have been a great looking car if they had followed the original concept drawing and design, but like with everything at BL, poor management ruined everything.

More like practical reasons.

Depends how you look at it. Certainly, engineering decisions were made (perhaps conflicting) to make changes to the original design for packaging reasons. I thought the Allegro was supposed to be the car that BL would export to the Common Market as a retaliation to the cars coming in from abroad. It was supposed to have a hatchback, like all other small European cars at the time but allegedly internal policies decreed that only the Austin Maxi was to have a hatchback, which made the Allegro less practical. And because BL wanted to save money, they decided it was a good idea to stuff the heater and engine from the Marina into the Allegro which then raised its height due to the increased size offered by the engine’s carbs. Which is interesting, because for a car that was supposed to be radically new and European, only £20 mil or so was spent on the project. Compared to the Marina’s development cost of £40 mil despite it having to compete with home models such as the Escort, that doesn’t seem quite enough.

Nevermind that the Marina was literally just a rebodied Minor, did you copy and paste that from Clarkson’s Car Years?

No, that’s information I cobbled from multiple sources. Mind you I haven’t checked the reliability of all said sources.
